“Planting,” built in 1985, is dedicated to the tree farmers of Long Island, site of some of the first tree nurseries in the US. Large brick-walled curvilinear raised planting areas contain alternating rows of  pink flowering Kwanzan and white flowering Canada cherry trees. Pre-cast planter rings with cast aluminum rope inserts are distributed throughout the paved areas of the station and are based on the shape of tree balls as they are wrapped and bound in the nursery.
